Four months of rain a year. And then the drought starts in the north of Ghana. It is always a testing time for a region that lives off agriculture. Guinea fowl seem to flourish in this climate. Trias capitalises on this because the animals are a source of permanent cash flow. 

Step 1: We unite the guinea fowl breeders

Almost every household in the north of Ghana has guinea fowl. In this area Trias is strengthening two farmers' organisations that support guinea fowl breeders. Together they have 3,000 members who in exchange for their membership fee have access to a broad range of services to raise their yield to a higher level.

Step 2: We improve the production techniques

Trias introduces improved varieties, thanks to which the slaughter weight of the guinea fowl is two to three times higher thanks to protein-rich food. Animal-friendly housing and the right vaccinations have lowered the mortality rate of young animals from 80 to barely 10 percent.

Step 3: We go in search of profitable markets

In the prosperous south of Ghana guinea fowl can usually be found on the menus of restaurants. An opportunity for stockbreeders in the north of the country, but then they have to balance supply and demand. Trias promotes strategic contacts between the farmers and local abattoirs.
