WORKING HARD TO STAND ON YOUR OWN TWO FEET

From a subordinate position, women in Burkina Faso try to generate their own income from the sale of vegetables, beer or rice. Trias supports female rice growers who would give their lives for a good education of their children.

Step 1: We strengthen women's groups who precook the rice

Trias supports a producers' association of 120 members spread over 4 villages. For every sold bag of 100kg the women receive EUR 8 net. Some women sell up to 10 bags a week.

Step 2: We modernise the production techniques

Precooking rice makes sure the thin membrane around the grain of rice remains when you peel it. It improves the nutritional value as well as the taste of the rice. But in Burkina Faso women still apply traditional methods. Trias promotes better cooking techniques in improved pots and introduces adapted machines for cleaning and peeling.

Step 3: We professionalise the marketing

Local rice has always had a bad reputation in Burkina Faso, which is also due to the quality of the packaging. Trias supports women with the promotion of their precooked rice, especially in urban areas.
